Coragulac and Cororooke

Coragulac

Township 13 km to the northwest of Colac. The name Coragulac is derived from the local aboriginal word, 'corakyallock', meaning a sandy creek.

Coragulac is dominated by St Brendan's Roman Catholic Church and the adjoining primary school (below).

Until 2009, the nearby Good Samaritan Centre was run by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan of the Order of St Benedict.

Cororooke

Cororooke is a small township 11 km northwest of Colac. The name is derived from the local aboriginal language, 'korerook', meaning brolga or native companion. Cororooke was once a major player in the Australian onion industry. The Fonterra factory, which closed in 2015, dominates the town. It can be seen clearly across Lake Colac from Colac, and produced mozzarella and ricotta cheeses as well as cream and whey powders for domestic and export markets.

Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery Originally St David's Presbyterian Church, the Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery, at 520 Corangamite Lake Road, Cororooke, hosts exhibitions of local visual artists, while the 80-seat theatre caters for live performances and is the home of the Red Rock Film Society. The Gallery is open 11am–4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and admission to the Gallery is free. Website
